Visiting Christ Our Savior
Stepping into a new situation can be intimidating. So for those visiting Christ Our Savior for the first time, below are some helpful tips on what to expect.
Who should I ask if I have a question?
Generally our entire congregation is friendly and happy to assist with any questions. That being said our elders are always a good resource and can be identified by their purple name tags.
Where do I park?
Our main parking lot, which includes several handicapped spaces, is located on the east side of the building on Longs Peak Avenue. The main entrance to the building is adjacent to this parking lot. Street parking is also available on the north and west sides of the building.
Most Sundays the first person to greet you will be our Pastor. He likes to greet people on the stairs from the parking lot and he’s easy to spot because he usually has a cup of coffee in his hand. He’ll gladly introduce you to others if you’d like and help you get the lay of the land. You’ll also find an Elder at the entrance to the sanctuary that can answer any questions.
Will I be singled out?
Attending worship with us is meant to help you connect with God and other people, but we also know that some people prefer their privacy. Visitors are not singled out at any time during worship. If you would like someone to contact you after your visit please let Pastor or an Elder know.
What should I wear?
There is no dress code. You’ll find that members at Christ Our Savior wear anything from jeans and shorts to suits and ties. Wear what is comfortable for you.
What about kids?
Children are always welcome in the sanctuary for worship! An Elder can provide a child’s activity bag if that’s helpful.
We also provide a childcare area staffed by a competent adult. (Dawn has 7 kids of her own so she knows what she’s doing.) During adult Sunday school, after the 8:30 service, children, ages three to five, are invited to attend their own Sunday school with Miss Karen (one of our retired school teachers).
What about the offering?
We provide the opportunity to give an offering to the Lord as part of worship but we do not pass an offering plate. We thank our members for their generous and faithful support. Many of our members do their giving online, and there is an offering drop box at the back of the sanctuary.
Visitors, you are our guests and are not expected to make a contribution.
How will I know what to do in the service?
We want you to feel comfortable worshiping with us. Our pastor invites people to join in by announcing exactly what to do. We project the service on screen and provide a written worship bulletin for the 8:30 service.
What about Communion?
Lutherans have been wrestling over Communion for centuries. At Christ Our Savior we are believers in personal responsibility with informed consent. Pastor would be happy to talk with you about this in greater detail. If you are in agreement about what’s happening in Communion, you are welcome to commune with us.
If you have mobility issues let an Elder know and Pastor will bring communion to you.
Need hearing assistance?
If you need hearing assistance for services, please reach out to an elder. We have a couple hearing aid options available.
